Nio has hired a former tech lead at US chipmaker Xilinx, Chinese media reported on Friday, following months of rumors that the electric vehicle maker may look to develop its own chips in-house. Hu Chengchen has been appointed as Nio’s Chief Expert and Assistant Vice President after reportedly founding Xilinx’s research lab and leading its CTO office in the Asia Pacific Region during a four-year stint with the company.
