Taiwan-based consumer electronics company HTC has its sights set on the metaverse with its new phone, the Desire 22 Pro, launched on Tuesday. The phone uses a mid-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor and 8 GB RAM, and also features a 4520 mAh battery, which can be used to charge HTC’s virtual reality headset, Vive Flow. While the phone’s specs mean it will likely serve as a companion device for Vive headsets, it comes with customised apps and services, as HTC attempts to build a complete VR experience. Priced at £399 ($487), the phone is on preorder and will be shipped on Aug 1 in the UK. Customers in Taiwan will get a first look at the phone, with shipments starting in July, according to the firm’s website. [HTC]
