BYD enters Thailand’s passenger EV market

Chinese auto giant BYD on Tuesday announced moves to enter the passenger electric vehicle segment in Thailand by partnering with local automotive retailer RÊVER to sell EVs in the Southeast Asian country. The Warren Buffett-backed automaker also said it plans to debut multiple car models at Thailand’s annual auto show scheduled for this December, without revealing further details. Automobile sales in Thailand declined slightly by 4.2% to over 759,000 vehicles last year due to Covid-19 outbreaks and semiconductor shortages. The Thai government expects EVs to account for 30% of the country’s total auto production by 2030. [BYD release, in Chinese]
