NetEase Games acquires French AAA title developer Quantic Dream

Major Chinese internet firm NetEase’s gaming arm – NetEase Games – on Wednesday acquired French AAA title developer and publisher Quantic Dream, which was first invested in by NetEase three years ago. Led by David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière, it will be the first studio for NetEase in Europe. William Ding, CEO and director of NetEase said “NetEase will continue to fulfill our promise to support Quantic Dream to realize its full potential. By combining the wild creativity and exceptional narrative focus of Quantic Dream with NetEase’s powerful facilities, resources and execution capabilities, we believe there are infinite possibilities that could re-define the interactive entertainment experience we provide for players worldwide.” Founded in 1997, Quantic Dream is based in Paris. The studio has released several notable game titles, including Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human, winning over 250 international awards in the process. Quantic Dream also became an independent publisher in 2019, aiming to support original creators. Chinese gaming firms like NetEase and Tencent are ambitiously expanding their overseas businesses and investing in the development of AAA titles in response to slow growth in the domestic market due to tightening regulations.
