Oppo offers new alternative to Apple’s high-end smartwatches

Major Chinese phone vendor Oppo launched its next-generation smartwatch Watch 3 Pro at a Wednesday product release event. The new watch features a major design update with a more rounded frame and edges. It also has a rotating mechanical crown that provides better watch control. Oppo Watch 3 Pro is the first Android smartwatch built with Qualcomm’s newly released W5 chip. The chip consumes 50% less power with double the performance, according to Qualcomm. Oppo also introduced LTPO tech to the watch, which is widely used in smartphones to reduce power consumption and allow for an always-on function. Oppo’s earlier smartwatch was notable for its battery life, and this generation manages to provide 5-day and 15-day battery life in Smart Mode and Lite Mode. With a price tag of RMB 1,999 ($297), Oppo Watch 3 Pro comes in two colors and will go on sale in China on August 19. [Oppo, in Chinese]
