Self-driving unicorn WeRide reportedly eyes $500 million IPO

Chinese autonomous driving startup WeRide is considering an initial public offering in the US or Hong Kong that could raise around $500 million, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. A potential share sale could take place this year at the very earliest, but details such as the fundraising amount and timing are preliminary and could change, sources said. The five-year-old unicorn, already backed by Nissan, was valued at about $4.4 billion after raising $400 million from prominent investors such as China’s GAC and Germany’s Bosch in March. WeRide responded to Bloomberg’s report by saying that it does not have any specific plans for a listing. [Bloomberg]
