Samsung, SK Hynix, and Intel obtain one-year reprieve for factories in China

Major chip makers Samsung, SK Hynix, and Intel obtained licenses for their factories in China this week as a reprieve from new US restrictions issued on Oct. 7, after negotiating with the Bureau of Industry and Security under the US commerce department, according to Chinese media outlet Caixin. The licenses, approved under a “case-by-case” policy, will expire in a year, before which the firms will be able to ship chip-making equipment to China. Major chip maker TSMC also claimed they had obtained such a license for their factory in Nanjing on Thursday. [Caixin, in Chinese]
