Top chip manufacturer TSMC announced on Thursday that it is mass-producing 3nm chips, in line with its originally promised timeline of bringing production of the chips online in the second half of 2022. Mark Liu, Chairman of TSMC, said at an expansion ceremony in the Tainan Science Park, where TSMC has many of its fabs, that the chip maker will continue increasing investment in the Taiwan region. TSMC will turn some of the plants in Tainan into 3nm chipmaking facilities. Liu said TSMC has invested NT$1.86 trillion ($60.6 billion) in the Tainan Science Park and created 11,300 high-tech job opportunities. The chipmaker is also preparing for 2nm plants in Hsinchu City and Taichung. [Jiemian, in Chinese]
