Chinese automaker SAIC announced on Thursday that it expects sales of its new energy vehicles, mainly all-electrics and plug-in hybrids, to total 1.5 million units this year, representing a 40% year-on-year growth from 2022. The state-owned automaker said it’s on track to introduce multiple NEV models to the market under its Intelligence in Motion (IM) and Rising Auto brands, and expects them to account for 25% of new car sales. The company, Volkswagen’s Chinese partner, saw sales nearly halve in January from a year earlier to 238,023 vehicles, of which 32,221 were NEVs. [SAIC statement, in Chinese]
