Beijing is set to pilot the installation of chips on delivery and courier bikes this year, with the aim of tracking journeys in real-time and further regulating illegal driving behavior in the food delivery and express courier industries. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport announced the plan on Wednesday, however it remains unclear whether the delivery platforms or the transport regulator will be responsible for the costs of chip installation. Delivery platforms such as Meituan and Ele.me impose strict targets on order completion times for their couriers, which can often lead to riders running red lights or speeding during their journeys.
