Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi unveiled its vision for an urban future on Thursday with the debut of a concept car called the Neuron. The electric vehicle has no steering wheel, gear shaft, or pedals and is designed for public ride-sharing with no manual controls. Equipped with 21 cameras and 14 radar sensors, the shuttle-like vehicle can navigate the complex urban roads of a city, the company claimed. It also features a large infotainment screen for video streaming and a robotic arm that can unload passengers’ luggage. Didi said it expects to deploy its first production car with highly autonomous capabilities as part of its ride-hailing fleet by 2025 at scale. The car will be jointly made with Aion, the electric vehicle unit of state-owned automaker GAC Group. [TechNode reporting]
