Drone maker DJI launches low-priced automated driving system

Chinese drone maker DJI said on Sunday that it has launched a low-priced version of an advanced automated driving system that will only account for between 3% and 5% of vehicle prices. This will be equivalent to between RMB 5,000 and RMB 15,000 ($725-$2,175), as calculated by Chinese trade media outlet HiEV based on a mainstream vehicle price of between RMB 150,000 and RMB 300,000. Shen Shaojie, a tech lead at DJI’s auto business, made the announcement at this year’s China EV 100 forum in Beijing. He added that the company’s latest technology could enable vehicles to complete trips automatedly on fixed urban roads without pricy components such as lidar sensors and high-performance chips.
