According to a Friday report by local media outlet Tech Planet, ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, is currently conducting internal testing of a chatbot called Grace, which bears similarities to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The Beijing-based company disclosed to the outlet that Grace is the internal codename for an AI chat tool project that is still in its early stages and exclusively employed for internal testing purposes at this stage. Earlier this year, ByteDance reportedly planned to prioritize the advancement of imaging and language capabilities in its extensive language model. To spearhead its AI lab, the company has recruited Yang Hongxia, a former AI expert from Alibaba. However, ByteDance has so far kept a low profile regarding updates on its AI development efforts.
