US biotechnology company Moderna has confirmed that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding and a land collaboration agreement, focused on advancing the research, development, and manufacturing of its mRNA drugs in China. “Any medication produced under this agreement will be exclusively for the Chinese people, and will not be exported,” a spokesperson told Reuters. He declined to disclose the size of the deal and refrained from offering further specifics at the time. In May, Moderna expressed its interest in exploring prospects in China after establishing a legal entity in the world’s second-largest economy. Prior to this, the company did not have a presence in mainland China but expanded into Asia by inaugurating an office in Hong Kong last year. [Reuters]
