TSMC expands operations in Japan considers advanced process chipmaking facility

TSMC recently held a press conference in Yokohama to discuss business operations in Japan. During the conference, Kevin Zhang, senior vice president of TSMC business development, revealed that the company is currently constructing new plants in the US and Japan. The upcoming Kumamoto plant in Japan will focus on production lines for 12nm, 16nm, 22nm, and 28nm technologies. When questioned by the media, Zhang did not rule out the possibility of establishing an additional advanced process chipmaking facility in Japan. TSMC’s revenues in Japan experienced significant growth in 2022, reaching $3.8 billion, making it the company’s fastest-growing region last year, as noted by Makoto Onodera, president of TSMC Japan. Furthermore, TSMC’s total revenue for the first quarter amounted to $16.72 billion, with the 5nm process accounting for 31% and the 7nm process accounting for 20%. [IThome, in Chinese]
