TSMC may postpone the mass production of its 2nm process until 2026, as progress in constructing the company’s 2nm plant has begun to slow down, according to supply chain sources on Monday. These sources revealed that the original plan for 2nm mass production in the second half of 2025 has been affected by sluggish demand for semiconductors and uncertain 2nm orders. TSMC’s 2nm process plants are currently under construction in three Taipei locations: Hsinchu Baoshan plant, Taichung Zhongke plant, and Kaohsiung Nanzi plant. TSMC’s 2nm process technology will incorporate the advanced GAA (gate-all-around) transistor architecture for the first time but is still facing challenges with a low yield rate due to technical difficulties.
