Huawei is on the verge of launching a new AI chip, the Ascend 910C, designed to rival NVIDIA’s offerings amid ongoing US sanctions, according to sources from The Wall Street Journal. Huawei’s Ascend 910C processor is currently being tested by major Chinese internet and telecom firms, the report said, and Huawei told potential clients that the chip will match NVIDIA’s H100 in performance. Major clients such as ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile are interested in acquiring the 910C, while Huawei plans to start shipping the new chip as early as October. Early negotiations suggest that Ascend 910C orders could exceed 70,000 chips, amounting to around $2 billion in total value. [The Wall Street Journal]
