Momenta invests in Zeron, an electric heavy-duty truck start-up

Chinese self-driving car startup Momenta is raising its bets on other growing segments in the autonomous vehicle space, recently leading a RMB 500 million ($70 million) funding round for electric truck maker ZERON, along with two other venture capital firms, 36Kr reported on Wednesday. Three-year-old ZERON, co-founded by Huang Zehua, a former vice president at autonomous trucking company TuSimple, has delivered more than 700 electric heavy-duty trucks with manufacturing partner Chery and expects that number to surpass 1,500 by the end of this year, according to the report. Backed by Toyota, General Motors, and Mercedes-Benz, Suzhou-headquartered Momenta filed confidentially for an initial public offering in the US early last year, and recently setting up a team to develop Level 4 autonomous delivery robots in the hope of increasing its valuation.
