‘Magnesium County’ Struggles With Demand: Xinhua

 

Fugu, a resource-rich county in northwest China’s Shaanxi province, is attempting to boost production of magnesium – an essential ingredient in many industrial processes – while striving to achieve annual emission reduction targets, Xinhua reported on Friday.

The county meets about half of the world’s demand for magnesium, which is currently in short supply.

Though production is being slashed to meet emission targets, furnaces that turn raw materials into magnesium burn around the clock in an effort to stabilise output.
