He Xiaopeng, CEO of Chinese EV maker Xpeng, posted on social media on Wednesday that the company’s assembly factories across China will be forced to stop operations in May if the company cannot find a workaround for the supply chain disruption caused by covid lockdowns in Shanghai and nearby areas. He added that Xpeng is seeking assistance from the government to address the issues and to resume production in the Yangtze delta region. Xpeng’s rival Nio halted production on April 9, while the lockdowns have also led to automakers such as Tesla and Volkswagen shuttering their Shanghai plants. [The Paper, in Chinese]
