Geely likely to acquire TuSimple’s Asia business: report

Chinese automaker Geely is in talks with autonomous vehicle startup TuSimple about acquiring its business unit in the Asia-Pacific region, with the exact size and timing of the expected deal still unknown, tech media outlet AI4AUTO reported on Saturday, citing insider sources. San Diego-headquartered TuSimple, previously backed by Chinese social media firm Sina Corp, has been seeking buyers for its China division following scrutiny of national security issues by the US government since early this year, according to a March 17 report by Reuters. The company operates 100 highly autonomous semi-trucks, 25 of which were being tested in China as of 2021. [AI4AUTO, in Chinese]
