On September 1, Chinese e-commerce company Pinduoduo launched a cross-border e-commerce platform named Temu, initially targeting the US market. The move confirms Pinduoduo’s long-rumored entry into the overseas e-commerce space, thought to be inspired by the success of fellow Chinese brand Shein. The Temu platform is set up with 12 top-level categories, including women’s and men’s clothing, kids fashion, jewelry & accessories, and shoes & bags. Similar to fast fashion retailer Shein, Temu offers free shipping on items over $49, but the two platforms charge different shipping rates for items under $49, with Temu charging $2.99 per order compared to its rival’s $3.99 per order. Pinduoduo is thought to be eyeing expansion to other international markets after trialing the service in the US. [Tech Planet, in Chinese]
