Apple’s new iPad Pro won’t feature Wi-Fi 6E in mainland China

Apple refreshed its high-end tablet product line with the new sixth-generation iPad Pro on Tuesday. The new iPad Pro is the first model from Apple to support the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard, according to media outlet MacRumors. However, according to the notes on Apple’s product spec pages, the feature won’t be available in mainland China or Japan. Wi-Fi 6E, an upgrade on Wi-Fi 6 with 6Ghz bandwidth support, is the latest standard available, which delivers data at peak speeds of up to 6.6 Gbps, according to Qualcomm. The latest report from the Wi-Fi Alliance released in July this year stated that mainland China has yet to offer proper 6Ghz resources for Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi standards are created and maintained by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), while Wi-Fi Alliance helps to test and verify devices for commercial firms. The alliance first verified devices with Wi-Fi 6E in early 2021, according to the organization’s website. [TechNode reporting, MacRumors]
