US investment bank Citi has predicted that Foxconn’s Zhengzhou iPhone assembly plant will resume normal production in December, Taiwanese media outlet UDN reported on Tuesday. UDN cited a recent Citi report which stated that Foxconn had held multiple investor meetings in the US and had declared that it was targeting normal delivery of iPhones in December. Foxconn’s assembly line in China’s central Henan province has been heavily disrupted by Covid lockdowns and worker unrest in the past two months. Citi projected strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, though cautioned that supply issues could cause the delivery of these models to be postponed to the first quarter of 2023. Foxconn was originally the exclusive assembler for the iPhone 14 Pro, however events in Zhengzhou spurred Apple to ask Pegatron and Luxshare Precision to convert their iPhone 14 production lines to the assembly of Pro models, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The Covid outbreak and subsequent worker unrest at Foxconn’s facility in Zhengzhou led to a sharp decline in iPhone shipments, with the plant running at around 20% of its production capacity. The plant lifted its “closed-loop” restrictions after China loosened its Covid prevention policies last week. [UDN, in Chinese]
