The cumulative shipment of Huawei Mate series smartphones has reached 100 million units since 2013, as announced by Huawei’s Weibo account today. To celebrate this milestone, Huawei launched the “HUAWEI Mate 60 Pro Pioneer Program,” allowing a minority of consumers to purchase the latest flagship in advance. The 12GB+512GB model is priced at RMB 6,999 ($960). While the original product launch event is reportedly scheduled for September 12th, the sudden pre-sale activity surprised the domestic market due to online leaks of the phone’s image on Monday. Currently, Huawei claims the Mate 60 Pro to be the world’s first phone with a satellite phone-call function. Even in the absence of terrestrial network signals, customers can make and receive satellite calls in emergent circumstances. However, Huawei has not disclosed on the official website whether the processor is 4G or 5G. [IThome, in Chinese]
