More than 10.01 million new energy vehicles (NEVs), which include battery-powered cars, plug-in hybrid cars, and hydrogen cars, were registered in China as of June, a major milestone for the world’s biggest auto market, state news agency Xinhua reported on Wednesday, citing official figures. The country also achieved a new record with more than 2.2 million NEVs registered in the first half of 2022, representing 19.9% of total new car sales during this period. The central government set an NEV sales target of around 25% of all new car sales in 2025, with the proportion of NEV sales hitting 24% in May this year. [Xinhua, in Chinese]
