TSMC shipped 70% of global smartphone chipsets in Q1 of 2022

Global smartphone chipset shipments fell by 5% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, due to factors such as seasonality and weaker demand in China amid lockdowns, according to research released by Counterpoint on Wednesday. Of the smartphone chipsets shipped globally, TSMC led with a 69.9% share of the market during the quarter, with Samsung in second at 30%. The research firm also revealed market shares for integrated circuit designing firms, with Qualcomm, Apple, and MediaTek together taking almost 90% of smartphone chipset revenue in the first quarter of this year. Compared to the first quarter of 2021, Qualcomm recorded revenue growth of 56%, while the market share of Huawei’s HiSilicon fell from 8% to 1%. [Counterpoint]
