Oriental Selection, a livestreaming e-commerce platform owned by tutoring company New Oriental, is reportedly preparing to set up regular livestreaming on Taobao, Alibaba’s major e-commerce platform. Established in the wake of China’s crackdown on extracurricular services, Oriental Selection has already opened official accounts on platforms such as Douyin, Kuaishou, Weibo, and Xiaohongshu, but currently only offers livestream shopping on Douyin. A customer service representative reportedly told Chinese media outlet Quanzhi Video that they would join Taobao once they have a larger inventory of products. During New Oriental’s 2022 Q2 earnings call, the company’s executive director and CFO Yin Qiang said that Oriental Selection was positioning itself as a multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-product live commerce platform.
