Xiaomi and Huawei see wearables sales decline as global shipments fall 6.9% in 2022 Q2

Global wearables shipments saw a 6.9% year-on-year decline to 107.4 million units in the second quarter of 2022, according to a Monday report from market intelligence firm IDC. Apple’s share of the market by shipments fell from last quarter’s 31% to 25% in the second quarter but the firm was still top overall, while Chinese brands Xiaomi and Huawei ranked third and fourth behind Samsung. The top five brands all saw a year-on-year decline in shipments during the period, according to IDC. The report attributed the slow growth of global wearables to “rising inflation, fears surrounding recession, increased spending on other non-tech categories, and the hyper growth that the wearables market has experienced in the last two years.” [IDC]
