BMW to switch production of electric Mini cars from the UK to China

BMW will discontinue mass production of electric Mini vehicles at its Cowley facility near Oxford, England, and instead move all production of the popular two-door hatchbacks to China by the end of 2023, The Times reported on Oct. 15, citing a BMW spokesperson. The announcement comes four years after the German automaker unveiled plans to launch electric Mini cars in China with local partner Great Wall Motor as early as 2021, with little progress achieved since then. The two companies are now rushing to start mass production at a new facility in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu in 2023. [The Times]
