BYD raises car prices as China phasing out EV subsidies

BYD said on Wednesday that it will raise the price of most of its electric vehicle lineups by between RMB 2,000 and RMB 6,000 ($280 to $840), as the Chinese government phasing out green energy vehicle purchase subsidies beginning next year. The automaker added that those who place their non-refundable deposit before Jan. 1, 2023 will not be affected. It also attributed the price increase to the growing costs of battery raw materials. The company has faced less growth pressure than competitors, with year-to-date sales of nearly 1.4 million vehicles as of October, while peers from Tesla to Xpeng Motors recently cut the prices of their vehicles amid slowing sales.
