Taiwanese authorities are investigating TikTok’s parent company ByteDance establishing an unauthorized local operation in the region, local media outlet Liberty Times Net reported on Dec. 18. However, TikTok responded to local media CNA that the company has no local operation in the region. Local business registration data shows a company named “Shengyang International Biotechnology Company” (our translation) and registered in 2018, was renamed to “ByteDance Taiwan Co., Ltd” (our translation) in November this year.
