ByteDance’s PICO XR business has appointed Li Xiaokai as its new head after founder Zhou Hongyi stepped down for personal career planning. The leadership transition is not expected to change PICO’s existing strategy, research and development work or product plans.
PICO plans to launch a new mixed-reality device this year under the codename Project Swan. The device is expected to use a MicroOLED display and PICO’s self-developed MR chip, with a dual-chip design and system perception latency of 12 milliseconds.
Li joined PICO in 2021 and has overseen core product and technology work. PICO OS 6 expands the platform beyond VR applications to spatial computing, with support for Android apps, browsers, 3D content, OpenXR and WebXR. [36Kr, in Chinese]
